Service Description

The Gatehouse is a drop-in café for homeless people and vulnerably-housed adults aged 25 or over. There is no formal referral process - we operate an open-door policy on a drop-in basis.

The café currently averages 347 visits a week and is accessed by up to 70 individuals an evening. The project engages some of the most hard to reach and entrenched rough sleepers on a regular basis, and has an informal approach when working with people.

The Gatehouse is a volunteer-led organisation with approximately 400 helpers. They prepare the food every day, deliver the front line service, and undertake administration and website management. A small team of paid staff helps the different volunteer teams manage risk or complex issues within sessions.

On Fridays from 12noon until 3pm there is an appointment only service to help advise guests on benefit claims and helping with writing CV's. This work is done in partnership with Aspire and Turning Point.
